First impressions of the winter wonderland were spectacular
The first night of aurora was spent amoungst the snow covered trees in -20°C and was the first time I had ever seen the purple/pink aurora running along the bottom of the curtains. The pink aurora is caused by energetic solar particles interacting with nitrogen molecules in the atmosphere.
The next day was spent exploring Abisko, a small village north of Kiruna and home to the aurora sky station
Later that night we had one of the most incredible northern lights adventure out on the frozen Torneträsk lake. It hit -37°C and was so cold that my camera batteries stopped working and my eyebrows froze.
The next night was spent in Kiruna again where I witnessed the rare light pillars, which are created by horizontal ice crystals in the night sky reflecting the street light back down to our eyes.
This night also had one of the most beautiful backdrops for snowy pictures. When I look at this picture I feel serenity and I hope you do too.
I was again in awe of another beautiful display of aurora, it felt like every moment of this trip was planned perfectly for an aurora enthusiast.
Finally, I managed to create a timelapse that I hope you will enjoy!
